Elyse Haren is a classy, sassy, dark-haired storyteller with an ethereal mystique. She is real, with nothing contrived, making music on her own terms and her own merits. She possesses the soul of an unbridled rocker; untameable, distinctive, and moody. Elyse Haren creates intelligent, unique, addictive and gritty music that has something to say as well. Her sound overflows with passion and power, and her songs are underlined with integrity, conviction, and vulnerability. After graduating college, Elyse fell down the "music" rabbit hole in 2000 at a Fleetwood Mac concert. Captivated by the adrenaline-fueled opening kick drum courtesy of Mick Fleetwood, the unmistakable tone of Lindsay Buckingham's guitar, the blend of lead and backing vocals, plus the roar of the crowd and the energy behind it, she hasn't looked back since. Consumed by writing songs, playing guitar, and even some piano, bass, and engineering, Elyse loses herself in the process of creating unforgettable melodies and crafting poetic ways of expressing her most honest thoughts, topped off with a rockin' yet intimate vocal. Elyse Haren has played shows all over LA, either solo or with her band. Past shows include: Knitting Factory, The Rainbow, The Viper Room, and The Roxy. However, recording her own home demos is where she developed her signature sound-- her own place to shine. Elyse has written and recorded dozens of songs with different producers and through those unreleased songs found investors to match her contribution to make her first full length album. Unwilling to settle, Elyse sought out the team to make the album that deserves to be made. After a meeting with producers Brett Chassen and Bob Kulick, the choice was clear. Both were straight-forward New Yorkers like Elyse, so they all decided to embark on making her album. She then recruited engineer/bass player Robin Holden along with guitarist Greg Pajer and drummer Blake Paulson. This mighty bunch is currently in the studio tracking her debut full length album "Shut up and Listen!" scheduled for release in 2008. Stay tuned for new video segments in and out of the studio!

Story behind the song
"I knew that kid well, I mean, that kid was me..." He said with a devilishly wise look to the left; his head slightly hidden by the microphone... "But I barely knew me then... To be honest, I was barely there to be known." -Eddie Vedder ******************************************************************** Eddie said these words during the taping of VH1 Storytellers. His words and his tone of voice floored me literally! I was sitting in a towel in a hotel room in Kauai. I was there for one of my best friend's wedding. I was supposed to be down at a Luau, but I wanted nothing more than to sit and be taken away by Eddie and Pearl Jam..and that's just what I did. Then I picked up the pen and started writing...quoting Eddie from "Gone"...who was quoting Pete Townsend...who was quoting his spiritual leader, Meher Baba. "Nothing is everything like the words you said. They're like a vision etched in my head." -The first two lines to Break My Heart Slowly You can read more about the Pearl Jam VH1 Storytellers and the article below! *************************************************************** On the lyric sheet, "Gone" has "Thanks again P.T." next to the songwriting credit. Who is P.T.? What would be your guess? Pete Townshend. See, it's easy, isn't it? [Laughs] I wrote "Thanks again" because I realized the first time I thanked him was (Binaural's) "Soon Forget" because I lifted a couple ukulele chords from "Blue, Red And Gray" off Who By Numbers. This time I'm thanking him because I lifted a lyric; I guess I better call him quick. [Laughs] The lyric says, "Nothing is everything"; it's from a song called "Let's See Action" off Who Came First. It's an idea that came from Meher Baba, who is Pete's spiritual leader. I think if I'm helping spread the word of Meher Baba rather than stealing Pete's lyrics, he'll be OK with it. It comes from Meher Baba's quote about desire for nothing except desirelessness; I think I'm turning it around in the song by saying, "If nothing is everything, I will have it all," meaning I'm just letting go. It's about a guy who's just getting the fuck out of town and starting over with nothing and wanting nothing. It was written in Atlantic City, so you can imagine. I was looking at this freeway in front of me and didn't know which way was out of town, but I certainly knew which way I wanted to be headed. **************************************************************** So, what does "If nothing is everything.." (then I'll have it all) mean to you? I'll start...The empty void is full of truth and meaning. Please add your thoughts in comments:) Have a great day! I am off to a pre-production session on the last 4 tracks of the album! TTYL~ E
Lyrics
Break my Heart Slowly Nothing is everything like the words you said They're like a vision etched in my head. I never realized I made it easy to pretend... Everything I never knew I wanted was driving me... Into the grey unknown, Oh I know this may be a lonely road, or can it be that easy? When nothing's as easy you think How do you break my heart so slowly... With yours so lonely you can't see? How do you make me feel so completely? And how do I heal this heart...from loving you Nothing's impossible in a moment you said, but in reality, silence sets in I realize now I made it easy to pretend Everything, I thought I knew I wanted was driving me Into the grey unknown, Oh I know this may be my only hope, Or can it be that easy? When nothing's as easy you think How do you break my heart so slowly... With yours so lonely you can't see? How do you make me feel so completely? And how do I heal this heart...from loving you Instrumental/Vocal Bridge: How do I heal. Do I Heal? How do I heal. Do I Heal? How do I heal this heart from loving you when nothing's as easy as you think How do you break my heart so slowly... With yours so lonely you can't see? How do you make me feel so completely? And how do I heal this heart...from loving you How do you break my heart so slowly... With yours so lonely you can't see? How do you make me feel so completely? And how do I heal this heart...from loving you How do I heal, How do I heal, How do I heal this heart? How do I heal, How do I heal, How do I heal this heart? How do I heal, How do I heal, How do I heal this heart from loving you...? When nothing's as easy as you think
