I see what they wear
And I dread where they’re going.
I often despair -
How fast they’re growing.
But just to be there
When flood spates are flowing,
To keep them above the waters.
Peace in the soul
- fullest measure giving.
Keeping me whole;
bringing joy to living
Much love and care
They need, and I’m knowing
How much I love my daughters.
Sometimes they fight,
They’re lying or stealing.
Anger and spite
Breed more ill-feeling.
Up late at night -
They send my head reeling
And barely above the waters.
Hurt in the soul -
Pain and sorrow giving.
Taking its toll;
Yet life’s still worth living
All turns out right
For caring brings healing.
How much I love my daughters.
