Story behind the song
i was at school, and i looked out the window of the library, it was snowing lightly and it looked peaceful... then i saw a guy on a wheelchair, who i have lots of respect for, leave the school. There was no hesitation, and it seemed like he was so full of confidence... outside its cold, and windy, it sort of represented to me the downs in life, the troubles we have to face. and the guy on the wheelchair faced it straight on, head to head. We have to push on, and fight and look forward. why this title, is because uptown is where i live, and also represents high-class/middle class society and hills, is elevated land. both of these words are positive and represents the highs/up times in life. But if there's a uptown, theres a downtown, if there's a hill, there's the bottom of the hill and valley. But we need ot be optimistic, and look forward, have hope that we will climb up the hill again. and notice i said we, we will find companions, and people to help each of us out. At least God is always there for you.
Lyrics
I need a place to stay, the rain's pouring down on my head. I'm drenched from the inside out again. Powerless under nature's wrath, it seems as if life is laughing at me. Nobody's around, I'm knocking on all the doors. Maybe someone will let me in. It's okay if no one does. I'll just sit under the rain and wait. I'm out here, waiting again. I'm out here, trying to stand. But the hills are too steep. Uptown (and) hills, I'm here Realize, though, rain will pass by Realize, I've got to stand up and fight on. Just then, the door opened. You came and pulled me up. The rain suddenly stopped. You're like a rainbow to me Wipe away the tears from my eyes. Here, uptown and hills
