This one goes back to the Regan Era. I was thinking of a white collar friend of mine who was complaining about his job and that he never had any free time.
We are into a fusion of metal, rock and funk
Story behind the song
I wrote this back in 1988 and recorded it with a Fostex 250 4 track cassette recorder, Fender Jazz Bass, Fender Telecaster Custom, Alesis HR 16 Drum Machine.
Lyrics
Monday morning’s ringing in your head.
It’s time to get your ass out of bed.
6 AM is to early you say,
You have to do it so you can get your pay.
(bridge)
Upward mobility,
GI motility,
It makes you sick in the head
(chorus)
Blue suits and power ties,
You’ve got to do the day to day grind.
You’re downtown,
You go down,
It’s time to kiss your bosses behind.
The middle of the week sort of gives you the blues,
To get to the top you’ve got to pay your dues.
Kissing asses to make the big bucks,
There is no doubt that it really sucks
Bridge/Chorus
(2nd bridge)
Some people only live for wealth and power,
They let it go to their heads.
How will you teach your grandchildren,
If you are off and dead?
One day you will be an old man,
It is my goal that you’ll understand.
Life’s too short just to work it away,
So take some time out and live for today
Bridge/Chorus
Fine cars and fine clothes,
Are sure to put you in a financial bind
Your down town,
You go down,
I need that weekend to unwind.
