Lyrics
The Willow Tree When I was a boy livin’ in the backwoods of Missouri Swingin’ in an old Willow tree Runnin wild in Possum Creek It was a rainin’ one spring mornin’, When mama told me ‘bout the story Of the day I was born under that willow tree She said the lightening was crashing The thunder was a rollin’ The wind was a howlin’ The rain poured so hard You could not see The truck got stuck in the mud right by this tree We were all alone, your/his pa and me And you/he were ready to come to be You/He were born of the storm Can/He you feel it in your bones My life circled around that willow tree The branches were like angels arms that welcomed me When my time is up its time and it’s time to leave I want to rest under that big old willow tree When I left the farm, To see what trouble I could get myself into I met a woman so full of love, she rocked my world, She was all I could think We got hitched at a roadside church, And moved back to my family farm When Mama met my girl, she hugged her And told ‘bout the story of when I was born
