Progressive Rock, Concept CD Spiritual Autobiography. I enjoy playing keyboards primarily and acoustic guitar secondarily. My favorite form of production is wit
Dr. Deal released his first CD, "Harmonic Space", in 2005. This CD includes original music and a 25 minute meditation procedure designed to induce sleep and to counteract anxiety. In 2008 he released the "concept CD", "Transformations". This work uses jazz, rock, Broadway and progressive rock music to convey, as honestly as possible, various spiritual struggles and experiences. As a "concept CD", many experience "Transformations" as a "spiritual vessel" which helps carry them into a deep, personal journey. Others simply enjoy the intense emotional honesty expressed through individual songs. Dr Deal resides in Ohio where he is a practicing Psychologist. He currently plays in several bands including a Trans-Siberian Orchestra tribute band named Siberian Solstice, (www.siberiansolstice.com), and a contemporary church band. He recently finished a four year stint in a Pink Floyd Tribute Band named One of These Daze. He has been blessed with the friendship of many excellent musicians who offered their talents on these recordings Some of the gifted musicians include Les Brooke, Tom Hanna, Tim Vargo, Andrew Vargo, William O'Connell, Cynthia Lugo, Russ Notestine, Andrea Bok, Arthur Kills Straight Putnam, David Coonrod, Ned Clark and Kevin Peters. "Transformations"-CD Statement: "Sometimes, in the midst of a perfectly ordinary day, one is unexpectedly flooded by the magnificence of “what is.” Perhaps that moment of awareness and clarity arrives while watching a storm or absorbing a piece of art or kneeling with intention in a church. If blessed, echoes of the past and visions of the future fade from existence as the unknowing silence of the infinite present emerges. With patience and grace, one comes to know the incredible richness of “what is” as a revelation of God’s face and the mind is forever transformed into a mirror of creation."

Story behind the song
Dark Night of the Soul (or lamentations of a reborn ego) David C. Deal, Ph.D. drde@defnet.com February 15, 2007 "Every experience of the numinous is experienced by the ego as a loss". (Carl Jung) This song is part of a "concept album" which attempts to express various experiences along the road of "Contemplative Prayer" St. John of the Cross described "the Night" as a "painful lack or privation: darkness in the intellect, aridity in the exercise of love in the will, emptiness in the memory of all possessions and affliction and torment as a consequence and general state...The effect of all this is the dread-filled experience of being abandoned by God. Souls begin to enter this dark night when God, gradually drawing them out of the state of beginners, begins to place them. . . .. so that by passing through this state they might reach that of the perfect, which is the divine union of the soul with God. Thanks to David Coonrod and Russ Notestine for their bass and guitar work as well as for their suggestions. Thanks to Andy Vargo for the “gongs”.
Lyrics
Dark Night of the Soul Copyright 2007 – David C. Deal How’d I get here again? OH take me back. How’d I get here again? Oh no, take me back. On the other hand It’s not so bad here. Well I am kind of hungry, and it is getting late. But Wow! Was that real? Was that God? Whoa God. Whoa God. I don’t know what to do. What should I do? Something for me? Something for you? Something for you. Yeah, something for you.
