Story behind the song
Based on the appalling folk legend of Auld John Brown. The Cornish fruitcake...
Lyrics
The pirate Auld John Brown is locked in Padstow jail For the killing of his mam and the murder of his wife An he strangled all his bairns and then he drowned the dog And he wandered through the Town hacking people down And he had but two words to say as they carried him away Ya buggers... They took him to the jail and they set him in irons and chains And they tortured him with Aheng's until he confessed his sins And then he passed away and he had but two words to say Ya buggers... The pirate Auld John Brown died there in Padstow Jail But his ghost it still remains clanking his irons and chains And his last words still heard some say echoing the passageways Ya buggers...
