Story behind the song
My children movtivated me to write this song..., it's about different periods of time in our lives & my take on the relationship I have with them as a father &/or father figure.
Lyrics
They say mamaa€™s baby, daddya€™s maybe Aina€™t that crazy? Like Ia€™d ever deny my baby. Dona€™t nobody out here want to be a deadbeat! Sometimes we get caught upa€¦, just because the heada€™s sweet! Thank God my kids look just like me! Now Ia€™ve got to a€œDo the Right Thinga€ like Spike Lee! Raise my kids a€˜till theya€™re grown, On theya€™re owna€¦, teach a€˜em to hold their own. I got 2, got married. Now I got 3. My oldest boya€¦, hea€™s acting just like me. 15 year old, giant, somewhat defiant; Trying to teach his ass to be God-reliant. But now hea€™s trying to be a bully. I may have to beat him down, So my wife dona€™t pull the Glock Nilly. Teach him to take up for his step-bro.a€™ Do the same for baby girl thata€™s for sure. I want this to be understood. Ia€™m not dissing mama, but therea€™s drama When youa€™re dealing with this DADDYHOOD! Thata€™s real. Ita€™s so real. Now my next son, thata€™s my stepson; Thata€™s his mamasa€™ only so Ia€™m trying to show him How to be the best son. But he dona€™t seem to want to grow up; Acts like he cana€™t do a damn thing Until his mama shows up. 13, wanna-be wrestler slash rapper. I think hea€™d make a good actor. a€˜Cause he keeps me & his mama laughing Talking a€˜bout how he could get at me on John Madden. Like that sh** could ever happen! But on the real, I need for him to tell me how he feels When I ask him how he feels. I know he might feel that stepdaddy aina€™t his daddy for real. But Ia€™m the daddy thata€™s making his meals; Paying the bills; praising your skills; Take you to the doctor every time youa€™re ill. Homie tell me whata€™s the dealio? Really bro! I know u know that Ia€™m the Daddy in this house! It was that way before your mom became my spouse! Now shea€™s become my wife. That means Ia€™ll be loving her & U for life. Now what that means for U is everything I do For D & C Ia€™m going do the exact same thing for U. And if U need discipline U will get disciplined, Whether ita€™s punishment or a whipping! They say ita€™s hard but ita€™s fair. In the DADDYHOOD thata€™s how we do it a€˜cause we care! Ah, then therea€™s my baby girl; The most beautiful girl in the world. If Ia€™m an oyster, shea€™s definitely my pearl; a€˜Cause I protect her, never reject her. 7 yr. old with her daddya€™s genes. Prettiest thing Ia€™ve ever seen. On Daddy she can lean, Ia€™ll lay down my jacket To keep her clean yo. But let me come clean, bro. I need to spend more time with her. Not just write rhymes for her. Keep mind on her. Take care of mine, sir. Yeah, cause aina€™t no other man goina€™ do it? I need to show her how woman sa€™posed to be treated. So when she grown & he dona€™t do it, tell him a€œbeat it!a€ Cause she dona€™t need it. Dealing with some fool thata€™s to conceited To treat her like she wants to be treated! But on the other hand, She needs to see how to treat a man Thata€™s doing right by her, & understands Ita€™s all part of Godsa€™ plan. For her to have a good man She got to be a good woman. U feel me? Now my only other goala€™s To make sure she stays up off the pole! Cause no man wants to see his baby girl losing her soul Digging for gold in the Players Club, or Looking for love with scrubs! She gets love at home, from Daddy ita€™s always shown. How a man treats a woman well already known. This is for when shea€™s grown, leta€™s get this understood. This is the way that we do it in the DADDYHOOD! In the DADDYHOOD, ita€™s understood U was the one to lay the wood Now U got to make it good In the DADDYHOOD, We take care of our kids. Who gives a damn what your babya€™s mom did! Shid!
