With more than 300 songs and counting and for more than 30 years, I have written in a variety of acoustic styles from novelty tunes to love songs to historical ballads to poetic surrealistic songs to retro-acoustic pop. From bizarre to traditional from funny to poignant, whatever style the song is in, the melodies are usually memorable and the lyrics unpredictable. This site will eventually contain rough often first take demos of my entire song catalogue. Many of the earliest songs when I first started writing will of course be shaky. So expect the songs to get better as time goes on. Feel free to come back and browse often as I will constantly be adding songs, one by one in chronological order, starting in 1974. If you are looking for some unusual songs to cover from a little known but unique artist, you have come to the right place. Just e-mail me. If you find a song here that intrigues you, but you don't like a line or two, or you think it needs a bridge, drop me an e-mail and maybe you can earn writer's credit if it gets that song to be recorded or performed.... otherwise just enjoy. You can become a Rob Lincoln fan at no cost to you. I promise that if you keep coming back there will be some real surprises along the way. While mostly acoustic, some original material will veer into folk rock and even 60's pop, but the garage rock and loudest material will also be found in full band arrangement at soundclick.com/abrasiveflowers Eventually some of these 300+ tunes may be rerecorded and make it on to CD, including a novelty CD that would be suitable for Dr. Demento or an historical ballad CD or a political song CD--but until then, this is the only site you can hear most of these songs. (A few of my songs CAN be found on songramp.com/RobLincoln and myspace.com/lessickandlincoln)

Story behind the song
This song was loosely based on a true story. Character Flaw can be found on the Lessick & Lincoln cd, Other Lives. I wanted to do a different approach and ended up using a very extreme delay effect on the vocals. To hear the more conventional (and officially released) version with a nice violin part and dobro, go to: http://cdbaby.com/cd/lessicklincoln Mp3 listeners gave this a 4.0 out of 5.0....Some comments were: "I'd stick with the more conventional version that is on your Lessick & Lincoln CD. I really like the fact that you've got an urban warfare type song that starts with a very rural sounding violin piece. I listen to that version a lot on my I-POD" "I like this song. Not crazy about the echo though" "Interesting" "Works okay if it's a dream like or clearly fictitius song like "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" (Traveling Wilburies). Otherwise, it's too factual sounding, and matter of fact, for the content. that is mood and sound doesn't match story. murder, drugs..."
Lyrics
Standing on the corner on Jefferson St I'm jingling my coins I can't miss a beat Got my sunglasses and my cane and cup I see everything (so does my pup) Enough for a sandwich and some coffee Stay everyday till a quarter to free What ya gonna do? Poking out the doorway on Jefferson St A ten year old boy he don't miss a beat Here comes the money man Puts the 10 dollars in his hand he's so bad checking out that block Spreads the word if he sees a cop What ya gonna do? There's no money to be made There's no money to be paid Government says "don't worry 'bout the money Just say no, just be good Just do what your mama should Money won't help nah nah nah It's just a character flaw Here comes the big money man Saturday night special in his hand Shoots the bulletts through his old friend Lying dead on the pavement Gonna take the stuff, gonna get real high But ain't got nowhere to run and hide What ya gonna do? There's no money to be made There's no money to be paid Government says "don't worry 'bout the money Just say no, just be good Just do what your mama should Money won't help nah nah nah It's just a character flaw here come the men in blue They chase him to his own bedroon Ask him to just give it up And they shoot their guns until it stops Body buried just outside town Lots of tears and lots of frowns What ya gonna do? There's no money to be made There's no money to be paid Government says "don't worry 'bout the money Just say no, just be good Just do what your mama should Money won't help nah nah nah It's just a character flaw And it's another sorry day on Jefferson St I'm still jingling my coins I can't miss a beat Here comes the new money man Gold chains, a beeper and big new plans ten year old boy poking out that door And now he wnats his own 44 What ya gonna do? What ya gonna do?
