Story behind the song
This song is a real trainwreck. The John Lee Hooker guitar riff was something that came out of playing with the RXP player in SONAR, but became too insistent for the whole thing. If you recognize it, it was from of the Rapture synth demo. So I added electronic tracks and dropped the guitar. The lyrics, too, are a mishmash. "Wisteria" was supposed to go to the music, but Mary came up with melody before this was finished. The new lyrics were to be quasi-political with two parts, almost call-and-response, but morphed into an Etta James nastyness. Hopefully, Mary's singing ties it all together. Like a lot of electronic stuff, some of it works, other parts ....
Lyrics
I’m going love you like a aztec baby
I’m going to rip out your heart
I’m going to love you like a musselman
and cut off your head for a start
Your holy of holies knows
that I’m older than dirt – black as sin
while thinking that yourself
can never be too young rich and thin
(chorus)
Oh why do you make me do it?
why do you always talk
about the things you want to do
when you know its not spit just hawk?
Be careful what you wish for
or look a gift horse in the mouth
when what you need is olive and gin
to find a cure for the gout
wrap me like a Christmas chocolate
slip an egg into skin milk
steady hand and whiskers
mixed with leather and with silk
I could love you more
if my syrup was only warm
my oyster just a little steamed
and my curtain oh so torn
(chorus)
Oh why do you make me do it?
why do you always talk
about the things you want to do
when you know its not spit just hawk?
