I'm easily inspired either by personal experiences, things said in conversation, being given a challenge, or being moved or amused by something. Many genres.

Story behind the song
Co-write with Nigel Potter (Terentek) it's an extremely dark spoken track about the desperation and resignation a homeless drug addict might feel when he's gone way too far. It's kindly been played by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 MUSIC. Hopefully, in some way, it can be used to highlight the plight of people we sometimes rather just ignore. Often they're good people who are in the position they are through no fault of their own. They've simply been dealt losing cards all round when very young. INSPIRATION I've never taken drugs in my life, but was inspired after reading an extremely moving autobiography. NIGEL POTTER I'd always admired Nigel's unique style so he was my natural choice to send these particular lyrics to, and it was an honour for me that he decided to work on them. He was truly on my wavelength and along with a compassionate nature, had the the perfect voice to put across what I was trying to say. On my Review Page, the renowned Steve Gilmore calls it "A musical nightmare, made with great beauty"
Lyrics
Feel I’m burning, then I’m drowning, Past the point of no return. No escaping, way too deep, The devil keeps me from my sleep I’m dying, lying in the snow, Submitting to the horror show. My head is bleeding red on white, I see fires of hell on a freezing night CHORUS Too far gone to try anymore, Reckon I’ll just lie here, No-one knows I’m a dying man, Who’s too numb to cry My mind’s like a twisted coil, With black emotions on the boil. Body, soul and will are broken, Throat is choked I’m holding on to a silken thread, With fine lifelines in my head, I’m sinking fast in tons of quicksand Reaching out for a helping hand. CHORUS Too far gone to try anymore, Reckon I’ll just lie here, No-one knows I’m a dying man, Who’s too numb to cry. BRIDGE Where can I go to lose the pain, Who can I turn to who won’t turn me away, How can I stand while Satan holds me down, Laughing as he hands me a wrought iron crown. I’ve a crust of bread that a pigeon brought, Holey gloves and a threadbare coat, Rats are round by frozen toes, No way back for me I know, I’m dying, lying in the snow, Submitting to the horror show. My head is bleeding red on white, I see fires of hell on a freezing night. CHORUS Too far gone to try anymore, Reckon I’ll just lie here, No-one knows I’m a dying man, Who’s too numb to cry. No-one knows I’m a dying man, Who’s too numb to cry. Words/Music © Carol Douglas/Nigel Potter
