Story behind the song
I wrote this song in 2006 when a friend convinced me to compete in the Annual Bundaberg Country Music Festival.
Not really being into country music, and not wanting to sing a cover song, I decided to write my own song.
I finished the last verse 10 minutes before I performed it.
I still have a tear in my eye when I sing the last verse.
This song is dedicated to the memory my grandmother who passed away in 2005.
It is also for my Step Grandfather who lovingly took care of her through her Alzheimer's without one word of complaint.
Lyrics
ONE LAST DANCE - Copyright 2006 Barry Fensom
I can still remember, the first time that I saw your face.
You were looking oh so pretty, and I thought I saw you glance my way.
So I plucked up the courage, and I asked you if you wanna dance.
You said, My two left feet might trip us up, but I will if you'll take the chance
And I said Yeah oh yeah, I like you like that, I love you just the way you are (oh yeah, oh yeahhh)
Yeah, oh yeah, one last dance to consumate our true romance (oh yeah, oh yeah)
So the years went by, and we had a child, and we grew old and grey together.
You said, When I look in the mirror, I see a face that's old and worn and weathered
I said that's okay, you're still the same girl I fell in love with long ago.
You're the only one that I need, I hope that this you know and I said...
Yeah oh yeah, I love you like that, I love you just the way you are (oh yeah, oh yeahhh)
Yeah, oh yeah, one last dance to consumate our true romance (oh yeah, oh yeah)... And the band played
[instrumental]
Now father time has passed you by, and all that's left are my memories.
I go to sleep and I dream of you.... Take one last dance with me
Yeah oh yeah I loved you always, I loved you right from the start
Yeah oh yeah You're always in my dreams your always in my heart.
I'll always remember you
I'll always remember you
