Story behind the song
Back in the 90's I was in a band called Circle Horse in Chicago. We had a great guitarist, Dan Hill who came to me with this song called Pact. He presented me with these terribly raw and honest lyrics that most people would back away from writing or at least wouldn't want to admit to feeling. This guy was a nearly homeless, definitely toothless, frighteningly talented bruiser of a guy. One of those people that just seem to be vessels for the magic of creativity to flow through despite the fact that they are otherwise near idiots. We sat on my living room floor and worked out Pact on my crappy acoustic guitar. When I heard him try to sing it in his off-key, cracking voice - the emotional pureness of the meaning of the song made me cry. More so that this virtual idiot could pull off such an emotional masterpiece and not even be aware of the talent he posessed. Anyway - his melody was lacking. So I came up with this melody, sang his lyrics and here you have the song Pact. This song is a hidden track on the famous compilation of Chicago's top talent in '95 called Freefest Live.
