Story behind the song
An excerpt from the “The Citadel of Cynosure and Other Tales” Novelette Upon the edge of gleaming ledge With Endless Echoes Spikes of Ice Traveling from the Cave of Centax Unaware, the coldest price At the Cave of Centax, Bortarb's soldiers enter the Entrance of Emotions where their deepest fears are challenged. Many faint from intensified anxiety in the dark, creature infested tunnels. At the Citadel, the Dreemurz are gathered with homemade weapons, ready to defend their home. Meccadon looks at them with disappointment and speaks to them about the intrusion. "Throw down your weapons! We have the power to beat the enemy without regressing to their barbaric ways. To fight like savages would be a contradiction and mockery of all that our ancestors worked for and believed in! Do you not remember that we are Dreemurz? We preserve life, not destroy it! We shall wait until Antel and his people make it to the Spyral Slide, then direct the concentrated force of the Moltez onto the path so that the enemy cannot cross." The Vasse grows colder as heavier mists settle in, bringing drizzling sleet and wet winds through holes in the tunnel walls. Antel stops to rest. He wraps up tightly in his cloak and hears eerie echoes in the air whistling throughout the tunnels. Not too far ahead of him, Chelsea and the others try to escape the bitter wind by sleeping in the cracks of the passage walls. To scale the rim of tunnels dim With Endless Echoes Coldest stone We slept inside a sacred vision All together All alone Silent Survivors Sustaining Sleep Whispering Wishes Freeing Flight A Path of Pearls Dreams Delight To Dream upon Mid-Winter's Nights of the warmth of summer's morning light Antel wakes shivering and finds the tunnel lines with thin snow, blowing in through the holes in the walls. He stiffly rises and continues on as the wind gets stronger and the snow gets deeper. His footprints are quickly covered by the blowing snow which burns his chaffed skin. Silent Survivors Straining Sight Wisps of Winter Freezing Fright A Path of Peril Death's Delight To Dream upon Mid-Winter's Nights Bortarb and his men enter into the Cave of Confusion where ice-mirrored walls deceive their senses. They are frustrated and uncertain about their direction in the maze of caverns. Antel tries to forget his hunger. His heart is burdened by the unknown condition of his friends. He looks up and sees light glowing ahead of him in the darkness. He follows the light and finds Chelsea and the Reziztorz gathered around a small christel fire. They are relieved to see each other and to be united once again. As they continue on they see a dim light at the end of the tunnel. A few anxious and impatient people dash ahead ignoring Antel's warning. The passage opens up onto a path of potent Lotus Leaves. These beautiful flower stalks have needles that inject a potent drug which causes it prey to wander aimlessly, forgetting their purpose and direction, repeatedly getting stung. The glistening walls where water falls With Endless Echoes Splashing deep Needle leaves to sting the hasty Wandering in a lotus sleep Bortarb and his soldiers arrive at the Cave of Centax and realize that they have made a complete circle and are back where they started. To trudge the trail where many fail With Endless Echoes Biting Frost Returning to the Cave of Centax Tricked into a circle Lost... The soldiers split up and find tracks. They are weary and running out of food but Bortarb forces them to continue the hunt to make up for lost time. ….from the Novelette/CD, “The Citadel of Cynosure and Other Tales” © Whitman/Citadel Citadel® is a registered tradename - Used with permission - All rights reserved
