Somewhere South (of True Love and Romance)
Up tempo country tune - when love lets you down, pack it up and head south, you might just find what you're looking for.
Western Country Folk Songs with a bit of rock in there somewhere
I'm a New Yorker and I've been a fan of western / folk-rock / rock music all my life. I write all the music and lyrics and play all the instruments. Usually I get friends to do the singing for me. It's oddball material. All recordings are done at home using Cakewalk Sonar.
Story behind the song
I felt like writing something about a person that has been let down time after time and finally decides to try something new. I compare relationships to streets on a map. I'm crazy. Vocal is by Ami Jane Russell with backups by Jim Walther.
Lyrics
Somewhere South (of True Love and Romance)
I’ve had enough of heartache, I’ve had enough of sorrow
I know that my tomorrow brings nothing but the same…so I’m heading South.
The highways of my heart, well they don't run through true love's ways
and every intersection leads to lonely nights and desperate days...
(They say) some roads may end in love, that precious, everlasting kind
but I can't seem to find the sign that points the way . . . to mine.
Well, I’ve done my share of cryin’, I’ve had my poor heart shattered, I've lost the things that mattered one too many times - I'm heading South.
Down Solo Avenue, then up through Disillusioned Lane
Yeah, I’ve paid a toll at every stop I’ve made . . . along the way.
Well, I know what I’ve been missin’, I know what I’ve been hopin’
That southbound lane is open baby that is where I’m bound…I’m heading
Somewhere, south of “True love” and “Romance”, shy of “Heartbreak”
and far from “Promises un-kept”.
Somewhere, right outside “Wild Abandon”, straight through “Passion”,
and deep down into “No regrets”.
I’ve been thinkin’ bout a change, a new direction I might take…
I think I'm gonna cruise the wild and wicked streets … of my Southern States
Cause, I’ve had enough of heartache
I’ve had enough of sorrow
I know that my tomorrow brings nothing but the same…so I’m heading
Somewhere, south of “True love” and “Romance”, shy of “Heartbreak”
and far from “Promises un-kept”.
Somewhere, right outside “Wild Abandon”, straight through “Passion”,
and deep down into “No regrets”
