Well, if you ever needed a reason to boycott MSNBC, today should be the day…
On the 6th year anniversary of 9/11, MSNBC once again have chosen to re-broadcast the entire calamity, minute for minute, page for page.
MSNBC will claim historic significance, and some sort of homage to the human bodies falling from tops of skyscrapers.
Others will simply look away, like scared reporters afraid to ask the important questions like How Can We possibly be no safer than we were 6 years ago…?
And why not, really. It’s the coup de grace of all car crashes, and turning away would be somehow disrespectful.
It’s a Ratings Sweetheart and covering the 2nd day of Gen Patraeus testimony instead, would certainly be less riveting.
This level of insolence and nerve, is just astounding, and the balls it takes to program this kind of exploitation makes Al Jazeera look reasonable.
But it is 9/11, and I guess that’s what this has come to hasn’t it… we’re no safer, we’ve done nothing with the 9/11 recommendations, we’ve sub contract our hunt for an apparently invisible 7 foot tall bearded man, we fail to inspect 97% of all the cargo that flies beneath our airline seat, we’ve started a war in its name, and now we can’t figure out how to turn off the body count spigot.
Bu until we can turn this day into an instant of thought, that we can embrace as an American, instead of recounting a tragedy as if it were The Movie of the Week, we will always remain under the domination of those who kill to take away our freedom. Always.
9/11 should be our PROUDEST MOMENT, not our saddest day, because when all is said and done, we can still walk up the block for a loaf of bread, and shout at the president as he drives by in his limo, without government reprisal; we can still call Talk Radio and claim this was a conspiracy, or that Sue Zelickson’s red velvet cake is in fact a communistic vehicle for some subversive cause.
Turn the TV off. Hug your significant other. Kiss your kids forehead goodnight, and realize safety, is in the mind of beholder, and in this country, the only thing that can control you, is Fear, and Fear itself.
Forget about Iraq, forget about dirty bombs, airplanes and oil.
…if we REALLY want to sanctify 9/11, never allow Fear to control our lives again…
