a word with a lot of baggage -- both a functional device and a view of the universe.

the stated purpose of noetic echoes used to be "a noetic pursuit of philosophy and of music through itself." as of now, this is no longer accurate; rather, noetic echoes is a noetic/phenomenological investigation two distinct categories: one, of singular entities; two, of concepts. the former works as a sort of experimentation on a sound or instrument, while the latter is primarily a musical "scaffold" that is constructed based on logical, conceptual blueprints. this is all highbrow talk, but when it comes down to it, i just make music that i want to hear. i make music that i think is interesting. i share it here because i figure there's probably someone else out there that might like it, but that's just a collateral benefit. i proudly use sounds from freesound (http://www.freesound.org/).

Story behind the song
i was unsure which meaning of "mechanism" was of greater import when making the song; on the one hand, "mechanism" can refer to something that does something, in this case a mental mechanism (a la modularity) -- a functionally-defined bit of brain that performs some discrete function. on the other hand, a "mechanistic" view of the universe is one without room for free will or indeterminacy of any sort. 'mechanism' reflects this duality of meaning.
