Story behind the song
We wanted to make a song which was about change, war and the crusades, this is about a old Norse Communitie thats is chrushed under the Christian war machine, leaving the woman and children no other choice then to flee while the man forfaith their lives for them!
Lyrics
Jormungand – Zonnewende
I will never forget what happened last midwinter night
When darkness crept into our peaceful lives…
With thousands they came from the south!
Sure of there victory!
Our men fought them till there last breath!
Knowing it could not be!
As the battle raged in our sacred wood!
Our woman and children fled!
Abandoning the grounds where there forefathers stood!
This years solstices becomes a scenery of death!
Ziedaar onze heilige eik branden,
Het vuur verlicht deze kille winternacht
Ons roemrijk verleden helemaal ontworteld
Onze manier van leven onteerd en verkracht
(Chorus)
I run far away where the wind is blowing strong ,Knowing that
one day we’ll take back the land where we belong, but still
sadness and anger are creeping trough my mind, Thinking of
the life that I suddenly had to leave behind
Mannen en vrouwen onder dwang gedoopt
En wie niet bekeren wou, werd opgeknoopt
Moord en terreur in de naam van de ‘Heer’
Geestelijke knechting ondanks ons sterk verweer
(Chorus)
An enormous emptiness is filling my veins
The only thing they can do is flee to the North
Throwing a last sight on our place of birth
Once a pagan land, soon forgotten in eternity
Ik loop door de bergen, het is ondraaglijk kou
Denkend aan degenen die ik niet achterlaten wou
De kille wind bevriest een plotselinge traan
Na de zonnewende, was het met ons gedaan!
“Some escaped, some were murdered, some surrendered, but everyone lost!”
(Chorus)
“A life taken, one moment in time, we still feel the effects today… Anno - Two Thousand and Seven”
