Story behind the song
as the name might evidence, remix of moto1 (which is a remix of moto0, by the way). moto0 starts with trainletParticles that coalesce into melodic statements after establishing sufficient negative space. the melodic statements are in a 16 beat cycle (you mean it's not oddmeter??!) and tuned to a 15 tone just temperament scale. moto1 is the "radio edit" of moto0, more or less, with some added dynamics processing. nothing major. by moto2, the main melodic statements have been extracted. this time the meter is 15. the melodic statements then undergo a CGWT analysis and resynthesis which allows me to change the pitch and time independently. this data is fed into a program i wrote yesterday to produce Risset-Shepard accelerandi/deccelerandi. in this case, the material seems to constantly accelerate while paradoxically remaining the same. If you're interested/confused by my poor explanation, wikipedia it. I'm really into the cognitive effects caused by listening to this particular illusion. I feel it's particularly interesting when either the tempo or the spectral content (time or pitch) are altered in this way isometrically from one another. This is why the 'shepard tone' is such a fascinating device. I performed this piece in realtime, with headphones, and noted, as with previous experiences with this patch, some rather dissociative effects.
