Story behind the song
Man meets woman, woman cheats on man. Man tries to hang in there for the long haul, and ends up making himself a welcome mat, and getting used and disrespected endlessly. Like the chorus asks, "What makes bad love to me so appealing?" This song is totally ficticious, but I knew several people who it was happening to at the time, and figured the subject was worthy of covering one more time. The jam band Janie gray out of Murphreysborough, TN was the msuical inspiration for this song, after hearing their performance of "West Virginia Bound" in a Bristol dive bar one hot summer night. Don Eanes' performance that night on piano, along with the band, was one of the Top 5 Rock and Roll moments of my entire lifetime. So, knowing Don from our previous work together as a duo, I wrote a song when I went home that night, with him in mind, and hired him to go into the studio and cut this song. He creates magic on a keyboard, and I'm proud to have him here on this song, as well as the rest of the CD with me to help paint the picture of the internal war created by the character's dilema with an untrue love.
