Story behind the song
I've done all of the things mentioned in this song. What thrilled me was to find out that I40 runs through NC. My band back in the 70s was called Interstate 40!
Lyrics
HOME, CAROLINA VERSE 1 Man, I can't tell you how good it feels With Interstate 40 singin' under my wheels Heading for the places and the good folk that I love Been too long gone and too far away Dreaming about this beautiful day With that big blue North Carolina sky above CHORUS I'm coming home Carolina For a Tarheel slice of life ‘First in Flight’, but both feet on the ground Gonna jangle the Triangle Pick a pig and two-step 'til dawn Then North Carolina, it'll feel like I've never been gone VERSE 2 Take the Mustang up to the hills Climb Mitchell again and feel the thrill Of the beauty of a place that's touched by God's own hand Follow Blue Ridge Parkway a little more Visit a while at the grocery store And listen to the music of a hot-pickin' mountain band REPEAT CHORUS VERSE 3 Then I'll get in the truck head for Topsail Isle Walk on the beach and fish awhile Watch the pelicans fly their patrol the whole long day Then it's down to the bar at the fishing pier Sing a song or two and drink too much beer And wonder whatever made me go away REPEAT CHORUS
