A power ballad with a political subject in the lyrics.
Were a prog-metal band from Argentina (South-america). We have a lot of influences, from many different kinds of music.
That makes of Abaddyon a really unique

Story behind the song
Prologue to “NEVERMORE” (by Juan M. Vértiz)
“Nevermore is one of the most important songs that I wrote to date. It was composed in a very short time, after a discussion I have.
His metaphorical but strong content reveals a constant fear sensation, and a thing that I really hate about almost every society: THE LACK OF MEMORY.
In my country, Argentina, even this word “memory” has a tricky connotation after many events, product of a chronic disinformation and a vengeful way of reviewing the past.
As well as in other parts of the world, during the 20th Century it was not easy to consolidate Democracy in here. In every decade of our history, an elected government was interrupted by the power of greed and violence… and foreign interests, of course.
The abolition of primal human rights are for me a central matter, and that´s why an obscure period of my land is, truly, an inspiration…
In 1976, there was a coup d´etat that submerged my country in a repressive state, full of injustice and disrespect for every basic principle. A lot of casualties, abducted and tortured citizens, mostly civilians, by a State Terrorism. That situation threw a result of many dismembered families.
The country was ruled by a dictatorship, and many people supported the military intervention then. With them, we´ve reached the bottom, and since 1983 we have a increasingly & stronger Democracy.
- Here´s some questions:
Why this kind of subjects are such a “taboo” sometimes, and mostly for the ones who encouraged that situation?
That people still support that cause?
I guess not!, at least not the biggest part of them. In fact, probably they´ve never knew what they were supporting.
That killing process (and many other ones, worldwide) wouldn´t were possible without the silence and the ignorance.
But here´s my point:
Who´s the brave that is prepared to face reality every single day?
Certainly, no one wants to be scared all the time, looking above his shoulder, and maybe taking the risk of being at the wrong side.
But I guess is more comfortable to be watching “Dancing with the Stars” at the TV in our homes, isn´t? Being away from reality.
Then, when everybody needs some “bad guys” to judge, all the world runs to point at them. But seriously, only a very few Men do that at the right time, and risking his necks.
I know, not everyone of us have the guts to be involved in the resistance, but at least we all can spread the word of any strange circumstance where violation of the civil rights were allowed. Talking can help to save lifes.
Anyway, my song´s message is made to bring that kind of subject to our tables.
To dialogue, and not to live afraid of the discussion. To blow away the hypocrisy.
I think that a genuine memory can only be fair. Trying to know the facts from every side of the story, we will find the answers.
And trust me, there is no better punishment for a liar, than the exposure to the truth… the naked truth”.
…
Well, I don´t want you to be bored by this kind of “History class”, but this is a transcendental subject for every free-minded man, cause many similar situations have occurred and still occurs all over the world.
So, you better inform yourself… and let me know your opinions too!
Lyrics
"Nevermore" (Words & music by Juan M. Vértiz - 2007)
"Looking forward is not to forget the past"
(Juan M. Vértiz, vocals):
Hear my whispers,
I´m trying to be clear.
How can you forget?
How can you ignore this quiet?
Hidden in the shades
horrors of a past unsigned...
but WAIT!
I´m understanding all now (or not?)
We´re in a big game,
prisoners of their desires,
caught up in a web
made by the worst kind of spiders.
(Guillermo Josef, vocals):
Counting back the days to find the point at where we failed.
Loosing faith in everything again.
Cry out loud...
The remembrance of the fallen´s burning bright -deep in our hearts-.
Teaching us… one more time.
- solo -
(Juan M. Vértiz, vocals):
Hear my questions
and wash away the guilt (with me).
How can we forget?
How can we support their silence?
Hidden in the shades
monsters of a past unsigned are
waiting for us all to be their preys.
