Story of the Tongue River on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in southeastern Montana -- it flooded this past June, so I wrote a song about it. The whole story is in the lyrics.

Story behind the song
Flooding of the Tongue River, which starts to the south in the Big Horn mountains of Wyoming, and flows north to the Yellowstone River in Montana. We had to evacuate one night this past June because of the flood. So wrote about it.
Lyrics
The Tongue River Rising Words & Music by Scott Fitzgerald The flood waters rise from the river below getting close to the village we may have to go. Makes me think about staying of the things that I hold close to me. I drive to the edge to see the flow Its getting close to the village we may have to go. Makes me think of my wife and dog the things that I hold close to me. The Tongue River rising, the afternoon storms; Indians in pickup trucks, Water dogs look forlorn. The Tongue River rising, makes you count who you love, and what doesn’t really matter. The flood waters rise mosquitoes breed and bite children play in new swamps that grew in the night Makes me think who we are living here in God’s sight, close to us. Instrumentation: Acoustic Guitar (1989 Taylor 710): Scott Fitzgerald Alto Recorder: Scott Fitzgerald 7 String Electric Bass (Conklin): Scott Fitzgerald
