Dave Turnbow (guitar, lead vocals and songs) speaking on behalf of The Venerable Beads... like our namesake, we are no longer moving among us, yet that which remains holds its own. A trio - I, Sean Jensen (bass and vocals) and Pete Kassal (drums and vocals) - that took eclectic as modus operandi... pop, rock, funk, reggae, blues, spacey jams.

Story behind the song
Memphis, August (?) 1988—This phrase came out of a conversation I had with a particular nameless friend a couple years earlier about a particular nameless substance which we both had enjoyed in the past but from which I was now abstaining. The music came out of a Living Room Combo jam in April, and I wrote the lyrics sometime after that… a catchy phrase from my poker days.
Lyrics
You know, it seemed like such a long time ago Since I climbed on the board and dived in Floatin' on the feeling that it gave me Til I started to sink, forgot how to swim You know, Socrates said unto Plato "What man knows ain't worth knowin' at all" Stretched my mind like a ball of Play-Doh Thin to a thread all through my head I'm gonna cash in my chips While I still got some chips left to cash Once had the world in my hands And then the world turned into sand Now it's all slippin' through my fingers Not so sure, but the memory lingers
