Story behind the song
A friend of mine used this word in the past, and I thought it was funny that it could be used without someone knowing what was being said (I hadn't heard it before then). Thinking back on it inspired me to write this song.

With familiar ground phraseology, he'd finally cleared the air. So I went to warm the chair, I took my seat and pondered on this terminology, And similar thoughts were on his mind, this breathing glossary, A lesson he then did assign for my vocabulary, Research tools, I would use, thesaurus and dictionary, Learning rump words, kind of scary, [Chorus:] Callipygous is a word that usually isn't heard, Even when it meets the ears, it flies by like a bird, Talk in code of things so bold, discuss the scenery, Shapely bottoms on the radar scope reported covertly, Yet spoken openly, Strange to find so many words to describe the common fanny, Numbered in the multitudes, I tell you there were many, To my surprise, my punishment had yielded a new found treasure, A tool of conversation that would bring my buddies pleasure, Abused in no small measure, I shared this knowledge eagerly, and they were all impressed, The academic flavored words would surely go unguessed, We could now express the thoughts that weighed upon our mind, No need for stealthy whispering of Missy's fine behind, Or the other's of her kind, [Chorus:] Callipygous is a word that usually isn't heard, Even when it meets the ears, it flies by like a bird, Talk in code of things so bold, discuss the scenery, Shapely bottoms on the radar scope reported covertly, Speaking cryptographically, Now my friend Joel, a daring soul, he liked to win a bet, Wagered he would use the word on school nurse, Miss Evette, He blurted out his greeting to her, and then when their eyes met, Unwittingly she stammered "Thank you", and on her way she went, Oh yeah, Joel won the bet. Callipygous is a compliment, it means a well formed rear, The word is rare so don't despair, if it's one that you don't hear, A time to fight with all your might that really comes to mind, If they call you steatopygous, which means a fat behind, That really is unkind, [Chorus:] Callipygous is a word that usually isn't heard, Even when it meets the ears, it flies by like a bird, Talk in code of things so bold, discuss the scenery, Shapely bottoms on the radar scope reported covertly, Now I'm a breathing glossary, [Gag trailer:] Oh yeah, that inamorata has a nice fundament! Whew hoo, check out the inimitable gluteus maximus on that one! I'm suffering from severe priapism. She's got nice mammilla too; definitely great peritoneum there! A cappella, that's in Mexico right? Kama sutra? Did he say something 'bout stitchin' a camel? Your buddy thinks a thesaurus is some kind of dinosaur, don't he. Come on, admit it, Einstein! Copyright © 2007, by Richard Bobo
