Story behind the song
that's right You cannot get a lossless result from adding cosine waves together to approximate data. jesus god i'm drunk. look-- even tho [sic] i'm drunk i can plainly see that sinewaves can't approximate certain functions that are discontinuous . [post-drinking note: see "Gibbs Phenomenon"] and to the extent that they do, the more sine waves used that approximate the function, the more bessel shaped distortion is caused at the transients. whch is why even tho these mp3's are mono and thus are way higher in kb/s than most of the shit on soundclick,, there is no substitute for the wave files which might be available soon on my podcast @ podomatic/3ofspades.com but of course their server is less reliable and i'm slightly tipsy so who knows when the wav files will be available. anyway the new software i wrote allows for the direct manipulation of different layers of the DWT, where the coefficients for each layer are parsed into different levels of a multidimensional array. of course then you can plot each layer which can result in the fAbled [sic] wavelet display thingy which is waaay cooler than fourier's shit. because fractals and chaos are waay chiller than plotted out mathematical functions. fuck order. this shit is fractal in nature, meaning i have control over each possible paradigm of resolution in the digital system. in this particular patch, a sample of "Paisley" is streched out to 128 * its length-- using FFT Phase Vocoder Bullshit. then the material is compressed by a function which increases the probability of deleting detail coefficients each sample until it reaches 1. so at the begining it is highly improbable that a coefficient will be deleted, whereas at the end %100 of coefficients are deleted. this algorithm is really cool because I had to code it in "metacode" meaning that the SuperCollider code for the algorithm for splitting the layers apart into different dimensions of AN ARRAY ARE ACTUALLY THE RESULT OF MORE GENERAL CODE THAT I WROTE. SO I WROTE THE RULES AND THEN THE RESULT OF THOSE RULES MUST BE RUN TO PRODUCE THE RESULT OF SPLITTING THE WAVLET COEFFICIENTS INTO LAYERS OF SYNTAX. [sic] god i'm drunk. anywayz the signal eventually turns into noise because the detail coefficients gradually become removed. check it. [post- drinking note: the signal actually becomes noise by %50 through the deterioration process, whereupon it further disintegrates into silence]
