Story behind the song
The story: after hearing a sermon one Sunday, Marie turned to her husband and said "I'd die to have my brothers hear that sermon". Just a saying,, right?? Two days later she and her daugther died in a car accident. On the instructions of the surviving husband, the minister at the funeral preached the same sermon he did two days before. Six of "Marie's" family became Christians at that funeral. The surviving husband is now a minister. I knew these people,,, and it made me think... the rest is in the song.. The name Marie is fictional, to protect the family who have no idea I wrote this song. Bret Wyngarden: Drums, Percussion Glen Vandenberg: Bass Lyn Veenstra: Vocals Jeremy Peckham: Beautiful Guitar Solos (thanks J) Tim Veenstra: Tremolo Guitars
Lyrics
Sweet Marie bye bye I guess your race is won Did you know what you said When you traded six for one Well I wonder if I’m blue Could I be like you Would I trade six for one Or maybe two It’s a long and narrow road And I feel so all alone Bye bye Marie "I hope they’ll think of me" Bye bye Marie Bye bye Marie It’s a long and cold cold road And I’m so far from my home
