Story behind the song
Plates really refers to platelets. They're in your blood and help it clot. If there are not enough you bleed extremely easily. It turns out your spleen can cause your platelets to drop enormously, which is very dangerous. So this is really about a spleen smashing platelets. It's actually about my mother's spleen attacking her platelets. After all, aren't most songs really about mothers?
