With more than 300 songs and counting and for more than 30 years, I have written in a variety of acoustic styles from novelty tunes to love songs to historical ballads to poetic surrealistic songs to retro-acoustic pop. From bizarre to traditional from funny to poignant, whatever style the song is in, the melodies are usually memorable and the lyrics unpredictable. This site will eventually contain rough often first take demos of my entire song catalogue. Many of the earliest songs when I first started writing will of course be shaky. So expect the songs to get better as time goes on. Feel free to come back and browse often as I will constantly be adding songs, one by one in chronological order, starting in 1974. If you are looking for some unusual songs to cover from a little known but unique artist, you have come to the right place. Just e-mail me. If you find a song here that intrigues you, but you don't like a line or two, or you think it needs a bridge, drop me an e-mail and maybe you can earn writer's credit if it gets that song to be recorded or performed.... otherwise just enjoy. You can become a Rob Lincoln fan at no cost to you. I promise that if you keep coming back there will be some real surprises along the way. While mostly acoustic, some original material will veer into folk rock and even 60's pop, but the garage rock and loudest material will also be found in full band arrangement at soundclick.com/abrasiveflowers Eventually some of these 300+ tunes may be rerecorded and make it on to CD, including a novelty CD that would be suitable for Dr. Demento or an historical ballad CD or a political song CD--but until then, this is the only site you can hear most of these songs. (A few of my songs CAN be found on songramp.com/RobLincoln and myspace.com/lessickandlincoln)

Story behind the song
Originally one of the first songs I wrote in 1975 about the Nixon/Ford administrations, it was "updated" during the Reagan years. I leave out the lyrics on the recording about Reagan (see in parentheses below), but I do add a nod to Vlad Putin as GW attempts to get the cold war started again for financial purposes. Lots of money to be made! Mp3 Club listeners rated this a 4.0 out of 5..... Some of their comments included: "Cold War Twist had all the great folk song parody alements that used to inspire people when there was less concern for air play or how the video would look. I liked the Beach Boys falsetto and the straight no apologies politics. Curious what a teenager hearing it now would think of it...probably ancient history." "Like this song....love the contradiction of up beat melody and dancing while our leaders twist away."
Lyrics
There's an old dance that i want you to do And it's for everyone who is red, white and blue And it's all right, we'll sleep tight We're doing the cold war twist Even liberal Democrats can do it with ease It's easier than signing those SALT treaties And it's all right, we'll sleep tight We're doing the cold war twist Ah ooo Oh won't you dance in the fallout shelters with me Ah ooo We're gonna make the world safe for a free economy And it's all right we'll sleep tight We're doing the cold war twist Now close your eyes and don't hold hands I'll teach you how to do that cold war dance And it's all right we'll sleep tight We're doing the cold war twist Take one step backwards and shake your fists Stick out your tongue and wiggle your hips And it's all right we'll sleep tight We're doing the cold war twist (Now Ronald Reagan he love's that old beat but it's friendly Casper who's got the real quick feet And its all right we'll sleep tight We're doing that cold war twist) Lie lie lies lies etc. Now soon we'll be twisting up in outer space But don't think Vlad won't keep up the pace And it's all right we'll sleep tight We're doing the cold war twist Oh yeh--And it's all right we'll sleep tight We're doing the cold war twist Not left--it's all right we'll sleep tight We're doing that cold war twist *"friendly Casper" referred of course to Casper Weinberger
