Story behind the song
When I was stationed in the island of Diego Garcia in January of 2000. It was my 35th birthday which also coincided with my mother's death anniversary. Memories of previous birthday's began to flow and before I knew it I was crying. Because my mother is no longer there to greet me Happy Birthday. She always made it a point to call me on my birthday even though she was already suffering from the effects of diabetes. Also, she always throw great birthday parties for me as a kid. So I wrote this song for her so that I will always remember her. Synopsis: This song was written in January 2000, in Diego Garcia. A year after my mother died. It is a tribute to my departed mother Estelita Savella Ramirez. The first part of the song reminisce my happy childhood with my mother. And how she was always there for me as I grew up. The chorus says, How she is sorely missed now that she is gone. The last paragraph says how it has been a year and how lonely it has been but he knows that she is still there watching over him.
