Story behind the song
A journey through the seasons of our lives
Lyrics
THE PLEASURES THAT LAST A cold winter’s night, Flurries in the air. Under her porch light, You play with her hair. You look at those lips You’re longing to kiss; A childhood friendship’s Coming down to this. Budding love – two lips Meet the same – first kiss. You can measure your past By the pleasures that last – Those feelings that don’t fade. You must treasure your past And those pleasures that last – Those memories you’ve made. The years seem to race; You find your soul mate. In spring’s warm embrace By that old fireplace. You’ve found the woman You want for your wife; You’re sure she’s the one Who should share your life. Though the last log’s done, There’s still fire in your eyes. You can measure your past By the pleasures that last – Those feelings that don’t fade. You must treasure your past And those pleasures that last – Those memories you’ve made. A hot summer’s day, Sunshine everywhere. Watch your children play; Laughter fills the air. Your son’s first bike ride Without training wheels. Daughter’s a make-believe bride In her first high heels. Almost makes you cry – That’s how good it feels. You can measure your past By the pleasures that last – Those feelings that don’t fade. You must treasure your past And those pleasures that last – Those memories you’ve made. The autumn leaves are falling now, Your grandchildren are calling now; You revel in these golden years. As they pass by - those golden years. A cold winter’s night, Flurries in the air. Through the dying light, You see your wife’s white hair. You look at those lips You still long to kiss; A lifelong friendship’s Coming down to this. Fading love – two lips Meet the same – last kiss. You can measure your past By the pleasures that last – Those feelings that don’t fade. You must treasure your past And those pleasures that last – Those memories you’ve made.
