Story behind the song
I was inspired to write this one by an outreach presentation I was involved with about stress. It struck me that in many ways emerging from a period of significant stress in your life carries with it some of the same feelings of revelation as meeting with God for the first time. In keeping with my obsession with weather imagery I used the metaphor of being under a clouded sky and seeing the sun finally coming out to explore it more fully.
Lyrics
All alone, it’s no fun Sitting here out of the sun Looking back over time At how the story of my life doesn’t rhyme It’s cold and it’s lonely here Just waiting for that moment of pain When the light hits my eyes And I am born again And the sun will rise as charcoal skies Burst into life right above my head And I’ll see this endless light before my eyes And the clouds will fail as this darkened veil Is torn asunder in front of my face And I’ll walk into this life that never dies Here I am, You can see Just how much I long to be free As I look for the chance To stand up in the sunlight and dance The darkness is fading here Just longing for the day to arrive When the light hits my heart And I will come alive And the sun will rise as charcoal skies Burst into life right above my head And I’ll see this endless light before my eyes And the clouds will fail as this darkened veil Is torn asunder in front of my face And I’ll walk into this life that never dies
