INNER SANCTUM METAL FROM URUGUAY
Inner Sanctum was formed in 1989 by the guitarist Heber W. Hammer, who invited the drummer Adolfo Loskin to the project and Angkor Vats bassist Pablo Van Lagat, to be in charge of bass and vocals. The trio was presented for the first time live at the Teatro de Verano de Montevideo (Summer Theater of Montevideo) with an uncommon number of three thousand expectators and with an excellent response by the audience. Some weeks later they were invited to play in Santiago (Chile) in a festival against the fest of 500 anniversary of the “discovery” of America. In this festival they played before 1500 persons with a new drummer (Andy Viglioni), in this concert the band got a truly extraordinary reception, and the chilean producer Francisco Escobar, offered them their first recording contract. After this point the band participated in an important number of concerts and festival in Latin America. In 1993 Pablo Van Lagat got off the band because of extra-musical differences and Heber started working in a new project (www.myspace.com/heberwhammer). Few months later, the chilean producer Francisco Escobar, travelled to Montevideo in an attempt to reunite the band. After several conversations the band reunited with a new drummer proposed by Heber called Alvaro García (www.myspace.com/alvarogarciadrums), to be in charge of the drums for their first CD duties and touring. After a month of rehearsals and pre-production the label sent the plane tickets and Inner Sanctum flew to Chile to record their first album: “Frozen Souls”, produced by José Luis Corral (Criminal, etc), in REC Studios (Santiago Chile). This CD was recorded and mixed in only forty hours of the hundred given by the label, cause Heber and Pablo wanted to capture the same energy and sound of the band playing live. From then on the band played in different countries of Latin America, but a few months later, when the band focused on playing in Uruguay more than in other countries, the main composer and creator of Inner Sanctum, Heber W. Hammer, left the band because he felt uncomfortable with the direction that his partners wanted to get for the band and some other non musical reasons. In 1994 “Frozen Souls” was edited by BMG in Uruguay (the international or original version was realised by Toxic / EMI International), but the uruguayan edition was released once Heber left the band with a completely different artwork and copyrights (Heber recorded the original international version and had the credits for the music and lyrics and those were exchanged in the uruguayan edition. In the Uruguayan edition the photos of Heber were also replaced for the photos of the touring guitar player at that time Beto García, actually owner of Koala Records in Uruguay). After that Pablo Van Lagat stayed as the leader of the band, they kept playing and participating of several festivals in Latin America, along with bands like Ataque 77, Criminal, Dorsal Atlántica, etc. In 1996 Pablo, the last original member, left Inner Sanctum and forms Senda Negra (which means Black Path), and his replacement was José Romero (Requiem Aeternam, www.myspace.com/requiemaeternam). After the departure of Heber the band focused more in Uruguay than internationally, and the things were going fine domestically until Pablo left the band and without any of the original members of the trio, this line up of non original members gave a concert in Uruguay introducing the band Malon (Argentina), to finally get completely separated. In 2007 the band performed live with a transitory line up. By 2010 the band change its name to INNER SANCTVM, and is pre-producing their second CD in the vein of the original Inner Sanctum, which will be produced by Heber Hammer, who is back as guitar player and composer, plus the original drummer, Francisco Martin (bass) and a new vocalist.
