My big, loud, 'you don't get it' song, from the 'Used' CD.
Pittsburgh singer-songmaker Brad Yoder writes funky little folk-rock-pop songs that make you think, laugh, feel and involuntarily sing along.
I'm a Pittsburgh singer-songwriter who plays out mostly solo, sometimes as a duo, and every so often as a full (rock) band.
Story behind the song
It's not directly biographical, but it fit a situation my brother was going through pretty perfectly, so maybe there was some sibling telepathy. (?)
Lyrics
I’m just a cactus, but I’m happy in my sand
I’m out of practice, I’m just a little out of hand,
and I’m the last place that you would ever go,
you think you know me, what you don’t know...
I was a jester mistaken for a king,
and I impressed her, but she wasn’t listening,
‘cause when you’re shipwrecked a board looks like a boat,
you think you know me,
but what you don’t know would fill a pretty big book,
and what you don’t know would make a blind man look,
what you don’t know is how to leave it alone,
you think you know me, what you don’t know...
I’ve got some good friends to keep me company,
they know my bullshit, yeah, they see right through me,
that’s why I like them, they keep me on my toes,
you think you know me,
but what you don’t know would fill a pretty big book,
and what you don’t know would make a blind man look,
what you don’t know is how to leave it alone,
you think you know me, know me,
but what you don’t know's so very plain to see,
and what you might know Jack but you don’t know me,
you just don’t know is how to leave it alone,
you think you know me, what you don’t know...
