Lyrics
My City © Arnie Davidson 2005 ASCAP This city, oh my city Been scared of this storm for some time There’s some threatening to run but I’ll stay till it’s done And wait for a ray of sunshine; I’ll wait till I see the sunshine 1)Well can you hear me sing your street song In the city where I surely belong Well the water’s coming and the weather will change Your music keep my spirit so strong, your music keep my spirit strong Well my family left for higher ground And my guitars a floatin away But my voice feels strong and I know I belong Right here in my home I will stay, right here in this place I will stay 2)Well did you hear me from my window Singing out and strumming your song Well though the waters rising and the weather has changed Your music keep my spirit so strong, your music keep my spirit strong Well the stairs are all below me And I’ve run out of places to climb Hum the song that runs through my blood and my soul Though I do believe its my time I do believe its my time 3)Can’t you hear us from the rooftops Crying out that something’s gone wrong As the waters rising and the weather has changed The music been quiet too long, the music’s been quiet so long. This city oh my city Sent the angels for to take me away. Though one man is gone, there’s no water so strong Can ever wash the music away. You’ll never wash the music away 4)Well can you hear me in the sunrise Singing out and strumming your song Well as the waters clearing and the weather has changed Our music’s what we got to live on, The music has got to live on 5) Then from the streets and from the rooftops A million people sing and they pray All our voices rising and our spirits proclaim You’ll never take our music away, you’ll never take the music away!
