I play mostly alone but also play with bands we form for special concerts
Since I retired in 1996 I took up writing, playing and recording music as a hobby. I play piano, guitar, bass, drums, harmonica and tenor sax reasonably well but not great. I enjoy all genres of music.

Story behind the song
Several years ago, I visited my brother and his wife in Laurens, and met some wonderful people. I told them I would write a song about their town. Now Laurens is celebrating it's 125th anniversary. This is the song.
Lyrics
They came in their wagons, with hope in their hearts. The John Deer tractors, then were horses and carts. Now those fields are gold with corn. It grew from the hearts of the pioneers, It grew from the young and the old. Now come and celebrate, with friends and family, For it's known as the "busiest little town in Iowa" The Western Town Lot Company, Settled the Swampy Slough. Then in eighteen eighty-one, Laurens was born, And how it grew. Now those fields are gold with corn. It grew from the hearts of the pioneers, It grew from the young and the old. Now come and celebrate with friends and family. For it's known as the "busiest little town in Iowa." They named in honor of, Henry and John Laurens. When duty called, the people served, To give up all, for freedom's sense. Now those fields are gold with corn. It grew from the hearts of the pioneers, It grew from the young and the old. Now come and celebrate, with friends and family, For it's known as the "busiest little town in Iowa." Today, Alvin Straight is known for his bravery. The children of Marathon, carry the legacy. Now those fields are gold with corn. It grew from the hearts of the pioneers, It grew from the young and the old. Now come and celebrate with friends and family. For it's known as the "busiest little town in Iowa."
