Story behind the song

Several years ago, I visited my brother and his wife in Laurens, and met some wonderful people. I told them I would write a song about their town. Now Laurens is celebrating it's 125th anniversary. This is the song.

The John Deer tractors, then were horses and carts.
Now those fields are gold with corn.
It grew from the hearts of the pioneers,

Then in eighteen eighty-one, Laurens was born,
