Lyrics
The lady in her chamber stares With lightless eyes as blue as frost Upon the window of her tower Deep in woods of winter lost. Silent is the snow around her Drifting in the misty white, Far beneath her ivory tower, Cold and ghostly in the night. In the distance, solitary, Calls the wind, a quiet lull Among the branches of the trees And through the forest's icy halls. She gets up and walks to the door. Could this be the thing that she's been longing for? She takes no mantle, takes no cloak, She bids her lord goodbye, and steps out in the snow. Before they know to stop her, She's vanished in the storm, She goes to answer a hollow voice She thinks she's heard before. It is her love long buried, The first she ever knew, Her joyful teardrops freeze in place Beneath her eyes of blue. But still she hurries onward, The frost weeps in her hair, She stumbles through the snowdrifts, seeking The man who isn't there. And she hears him all around, Ringing through the dead trees and up from the frozen ground. And she cries out loud to him, And her voice is carried off on the rising wind. I am wandering nearer to the place you are... Will you take me as I come? I can hear your voice, whispering on the wind, And your touch it makes me numb. ...I will take you as you come... They find her in the morning, The snow has cleared away. Her lovely lips are bloodless, and Her face is pale and grey. Her body lies at rest now, Beneath the ivory tower, But when the wind blows from the wood, She haunts the midnight hour. Her eyes as bleak as winter, The frost weeps in her hair, She stumbles through the snowdrifts, seeking The man who isn't there.
