With more than 300 songs and counting and for more than 30 years, I have written in a variety of acoustic styles from novelty tunes to love songs to historical ballads to poetic surrealistic songs to retro-acoustic pop. From bizarre to traditional from funny to poignant, whatever style the song is in, the melodies are usually memorable and the lyrics unpredictable. This site will eventually contain rough often first take demos of my entire song catalogue. Many of the earliest songs when I first started writing will of course be shaky. So expect the songs to get better as time goes on. Feel free to come back and browse often as I will constantly be adding songs, one by one in chronological order, starting in 1974. If you are looking for some unusual songs to cover from a little known but unique artist, you have come to the right place. Just e-mail me. If you find a song here that intrigues you, but you don't like a line or two, or you think it needs a bridge, drop me an e-mail and maybe you can earn writer's credit if it gets that song to be recorded or performed.... otherwise just enjoy. You can become a Rob Lincoln fan at no cost to you. I promise that if you keep coming back there will be some real surprises along the way. While mostly acoustic, some original material will veer into folk rock and even 60's pop, but the garage rock and loudest material will also be found in full band arrangement at soundclick.com/abrasiveflowers Eventually some of these 300+ tunes may be rerecorded and make it on to CD, including a novelty CD that would be suitable for Dr. Demento or an historical ballad CD or a political song CD--but until then, this is the only site you can hear most of these songs. (A few of my songs CAN be found on songramp.com/RobLincoln and myspace.com/lessickandlincoln)

Story behind the song
This song originally sounded a bit like Colin Hay and Men At Work, who were all over the radio at the time I wrote this. It had a beat and vocal phrasing like their hit Down Under. It was first called Boney Fingers (not the great Hoyt Axton song of the same name) but really had nothing to do with bony fingers so I changed the name and some lyrics. Here I use a raggae beat but with a more jazzy syncopation. The song is about the arms race, but the general attitude still applies to current events. I probably would want to rewrite the lyrics if I ever came back to this song again, which is unlikely unless it gets a really great response, which I doubt it will. Mp3 listeners gave it an avearge 2.6 out of 5...... Some listener comments were: "interesting and funky. i admire your experimenting and it's interesting to hear the influences." "Too much effects (echo, reverb, I don't know what it is...). But, since I'm not grading on your sound engineering skills but on your song writing skills I give it a 4. This song has lots of potential!" "Didn’t really like it. Also didn’t like the distorted effects on the vocal."
Lyrics
They fight and fight till it's a bore Saying I won't show mine if you won't show yours The cards are face down on the table They blink their eyes but they don't tremble And some are saying it's gone too far While the others point their fingers Some are saying it's gone too far While the others point their fingers The king of diamonds owns the game They follow suit and call him names They build their hands up from John Doe's pockets Smile as if money grows on rockets But some are saying it's gone too far While the others point their fingers Some are saying it's gone too far While the others point their fingers The stakes are getting higher but it ain't our fault It's they that won't halt, it's they that won't halt They got more chips through their evil luck And an honest leaders got to make a buck Our honest leaders got to make a buck Got to make a buck Gotta megabuck Gotmegabucks Got megabucks They say the others want to defeat us Grill our children and then eat us Bake us up in a souffle Until they brainwash us their way But some are saying it's gone too far While the others point their fingers Some are saying it's gone too far While the others point their fingers Little fingers Pointy fingers too!
