Story behind the song
A wonderful woman who was my dearest friend for a long time... I was convinced we'd been in love for life in a prior lifetime. She was married then, and I couldn't bear to cause her heartache by pursuing romance with her... So I loved her enough to let her go.
Lyrics
It seemed to me you'd seen the sun
One time long ago
We'd lived and loved and had our fun
and loved each other's souls.
The past and future can't be one
though we wish it so
And love is now, not before or later
no matter when it shows...
But wishing that your love was mine
could only hurt you more.
I'll have to wait here until time
lets me know the score.
The deep dark ages past
What truths do they hold?
If time could be relived again
I'd go back for sure.
And though you may have known me once
a long long time ago,
Still I can't see how you knew
we would meet once more.
But gambling for time ain't me
though it now seems so.
One day, you'll see, maybe
that pain is my tomorrow....
My fate has long been seen
by the nights sifting dreams.
And it seems it could be bad.
Well, I must go where I am led
and accept what has been,
but it just may turn out sad.
So, let it go. Just pretend you didn't know,
Though you'd seen it in a grain of sand.
Let life flow... Just pretend that you didn't know
though you'd seen it in a grain of sand...
In a grain of sand.
In a grain of sand...
