With more than 300 songs and counting and for more than 30 years, I have written in a variety of acoustic styles from novelty tunes to love songs to historical ballads to poetic surrealistic songs to retro-acoustic pop. From bizarre to traditional from funny to poignant, whatever style the song is in, the melodies are usually memorable and the lyrics unpredictable. This site will eventually contain rough often first take demos of my entire song catalogue. Many of the earliest songs when I first started writing will of course be shaky. So expect the songs to get better as time goes on. Feel free to come back and browse often as I will constantly be adding songs, one by one in chronological order, starting in 1974. If you are looking for some unusual songs to cover from a little known but unique artist, you have come to the right place. Just e-mail me. If you find a song here that intrigues you, but you don't like a line or two, or you think it needs a bridge, drop me an e-mail and maybe you can earn writer's credit if it gets that song to be recorded or performed.... otherwise just enjoy. You can become a Rob Lincoln fan at no cost to you. I promise that if you keep coming back there will be some real surprises along the way. While mostly acoustic, some original material will veer into folk rock and even 60's pop, but the garage rock and loudest material will also be found in full band arrangement at soundclick.com/abrasiveflowers Eventually some of these 300+ tunes may be rerecorded and make it on to CD, including a novelty CD that would be suitable for Dr. Demento or an historical ballad CD or a political song CD--but until then, this is the only site you can hear most of these songs. (A few of my songs CAN be found on songramp.com/RobLincoln and myspace.com/lessickandlincoln)

Story behind the song
This one truly has perhaps the most unusual history of any of my early songs. Over the years it has actually had three different titles and three entirely different chorus lyrics. It was the final song I brought to Hearthstone. I thought it was brilliant at the time, a complex chord progression that changes keys at least three times with spiritual lyrical verses that seemed to come to me in a dream and a strange inexplicable chorus "Time In A Circle A Circle In Time." Well my bandmates found the chord progression maddenly confounding and quickly lost patience, and they also thought the chorus lyrics were ridiculous. It never made it past rehearsal and the band soon broke up. (No--- the song did not break up the band). About 7 years later I rewrote the lyric for the chorus and the song became "There Cannot Be No World War III" That version was performed in the duo Lessick and Lincoln and in our first few shows was actually an exciting show finale sung with great intensity by Steve Lessick. In trying to relearn this song, I have yet again changed the lyrics to the chorus, to a slighly more universally positive message. I don't know if this song is any good, but it sure is different. Mp3 listeners were quite divided on this. Overall it was a 3.4.... Some listener comments were: "This one is a 5! I love the chord progression. The only weakness is – for me – its simplicity of the concept. But musically it feels anthemic, so it’s more acceptable to hear such an idealistic and lofty concept. I liked it. I listened to it twice!" "This one doesn't hit my taste buds...... It would drive me crazy as a support player backing it up... as you stated above" "I'm siding with the band on this one...""I liked it...this is a fresh way of saying what needs to be said"
Lyrics
Every generation got the same hullucination That we are a free nation That we live lives for the duration That we must die for salvation Every hullucination is the same stagnation But the feeling is elation But the knowledge is creation But the love is salvation Someday there'll be a world truly Someday there'll be a world truly free Every nation got the same wrong realization That they are somehow different That they are somehow innocent That they have nothing to repent Every duration of the light Cannonization in the night You must know that within it's bright If we can reach the stars Don't turn out the light! Someday there'll be a world truly Someday there'll be a world truly free We are different and/but the same We all feel the very same pain (3x) We all feel the very same Someday there'll be a world truly Someday there'll be a world truly free
