Story behind the song
Unlike most of Anderson Counsel songs, this tune came to us at practice. The music, the feel and the lyrics, all in about two trys. Not to say it all came to me at once, but about a week beforehand I had read an article in a local rag called "The New Times" that on the cover titled: "We're #1 again". The article went on saying that dispite Miami's roadways having fast, luxurious cars, banks containing most of South America's money, and besides being a world renown destination second to none for tourism, the folks that actually live here (except for a handful of very wealthy) are the poorest and with the lowest pro-capite income in the entire United States. And for the third year running. That leveled me, it also gave me a new-found respect for my neighboors and for those that serve us everyday, from the waiter at the restaurant, to the person that changes the sheets at your hotel room. People here have mad pride and tourists should visit Florida being aware that not all of us are on vacation, so, if you wanna come here and shit on this town, you will not be welcome. John J. Austen
