Racing For The Cure (original single version)
This is the original version of Racing For The Cure, 3:44 in length.
When not a limo driver, am a music composer for EDM/dance/trance music. I will not stand still for the same BAD music...
I am Crazy Tom, a creator of emotional dance music, somewhat faster than the average tunes you hear on the radio. I relate to many styles, including trance, techno, and the happy hardcore genre.
Story behind the song
I have known an organization called Zeta Tau Alpha, a women's fraternity with many chapters across the US, for a good 10 years now. Their philanthrophy has been the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation since 1992. However, after hearing that my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had to write this tune; not just for her, but for the many who suffer from this horrible illness.
Lyrics
This is the instrumental for now, but these are the lyrics that are put to it:
RACING FOR THE CURE
(lyrics by Tom Wilkins, purpose for breast cancer awareness)
(verse 1)
You might think that I feel fine, But don’t know what’s inside my mind,
No need to wonder of incompetence, Yes—a person can make a difference;
Forty thousand die from this each year, The “one-in-eight” statistic may make us fear,
Sometimes we think that there’s no end in sight, But every day we’re closer to the light…
(2 measure break)
(refrain)
So many die and go undetected, we have to cry ‘cause we’re all affected,
We’re asking why we can’t take anymore, so let’s go on bracing, racing for the cure.
(verse 2)
Doctors researching, endlessly, We keep on waiting, patiently,
That one day a breakthrough will end this death And the “power of a promise” will be kept;
Keep “thinking pink” each and every day, And the cancer will die along the way,
We gather together since there is a cause, So send out the message, all is never lost…
(2 measure break)
(extended refrain)
So many die and go undetected, we have to cry ‘cause we’re all affected,
We’re asking why we can’t take anymore, it’s an epidemic that we can’t ignore....
So many die and go undetected, we have to cry ‘cause we’re all affected,
We’re asking why we can’t take anymore, so let’s go on bracing, racing for the cure.
(bridge)
We take for granted…that we’re so alive,
Maybe one day…if we race, then we’ll all be survivors…
(instrumental)
(extended refrain)
So many die and go undetected, we have to cry ‘cause we’re all affected,
We’re asking why we can’t take anymore, it’s an epidemic that we can’t ignore....
So many die and go undetected, we have to cry ‘cause we’re all affected,
We’re asking why we can’t take anymore, so let’s go on bracing, racing for the cure.
(ending)
It’s an epidemic that we can’t ignore…
We’ll be celebrating once we know for sure…
(break, then last line)
So let’s keep on bracing, racing for the cure.
