Story behind the song
The album starts with a proclamation of "attention listener scum...". That set's up the theme of listener comtempt which runs through out the Cherry Tomato project. In a sense, it's a big "what if" project - ideas like : What if the Kinston Trio became reckless thugs like the Happy Mondays were at some points? What if David Lee Roth had moved to Africa after leaving Van Halen in the 80's, and did a Paul Simon type thing - Is this album the David Lee Roth version of Graceland? This first song was originally 12 minutes long. Here, it's broken into two parts, eliminating a instumental mid-section that didn't serve any real purpose. Not that "not serving any purpose" doesn't fit in with the concept of being self indulgent, but it weighs down the overall album a bit - besides, I can only have songs that are 4min19sec on Soundclick at the higher bit quality, so I like to keep them under that mark. Anyway.... What is this song about?? Well it's a vague reference to James Bond's love life, a hair in the mouth, a 2nd coming of bodily plumbing,... Yes, it's "out there" in concept, and perhaps raunchy, but that's the idea of the album. The group/lead singer is a self obsessed, obscure, meglomaniac, with some musical knowledge, and very little discipline. Besdes the entire concept of the song/album though, this song does have a nice hook to it. The album was made in 1/2003, and since then I gave it out to some friends, there have been a lot of random times I've caught people singing the "there's a hair in my mouth..." little ditty. It must mean something if people sing it right???
