I've got this pair of shades I put on when I cannot cope With the dayglo carrot dangling before me on the golden rope. They alleviate the overrated colour scheme of things And regress me to that simpler fate that two shades always brings. Flipping channels 'til the dawn was when it dawned on me That I would kill to live inside an old thiry's movie. It seems colour complicates the matter and it just isn't quite Like how times are easier times are fine when you live in black and white. You can tell a good guy from a bad guy by the colour of his hat It's just too damn dang darn doggone bad that real life ain't like that. You can piss and moan for your technicolour, it brings you such delight But all I'm really looking for is a little black and white. Black and white. It's a place where folks are matter of fact and they've got perfect hair They're talking fast and take no shit no way no how nowhere. They're either cunning devious dastardly bitches and bastards Or they're stunning suave and swashbuckling and'll bend over backwards. Wearing seriously square styles ,always in fashion Because waredrobes based on shades of grey are certainly never clashing. I've known far too many fleshtone monotones that don't seem too bright Well I think all these puds could stand to use a little back and white Black and white. Some of you might think the dog's a simple minded pet He can fetch and beg and shake a paw but don't know the alphabet. But when God made Harv and Daisy and Penny and Duke and Regal and Shaft and Sunny and Patches and Blanca and Buddy and Butch he must've done something right. 'cause those lucky little leg humpers can see in black and white. So don't pass off something you don't get as overblown hype And don't conclude it's the opinion of some artsy fartsy type. 'cause your dot to dots and paint by numbers may turn out alright. But all I really need is a little black and white. Black and white. So to all my real friends you think you might know who you are It seems you cannot deal with a man alone with his guitar Perhaps your Crayola imaginations find it hard to bite Into the HB apple of my mind 'cause it's sketched in black and white.
