When I Went Off To College

Strictly humor about college in the seventies when no one was 'trying to become Sir Isaac Newton.' The idiots at NSAI do not recognize humor that starts in the first line pretending that I do not know the difference in veterinarian and vegetarian.

February 25, 1973 as a college senior an 18-year-old kid came left of center and hit me head-on in a car crash. Hospitalized it kept me from graduating with my classmates. I had to attend summer school to complete my degree. I took with me to summer school an old guitar along with the album and songbook "The Silver Tongued Devil And I" by Kris Kristofferson. As I tried to learn my first song I realized the practice time had been the longest I had gone without thinking about the wreck and all the problems it had caused. It had killed the kid who had crashed into me and he was an only child. Since learning "The Silver Tongued Devil And I," I have turned to the songs of Kris Kristofferson during times of trouble in my life. In 1999 I lost my older son, Tad, in a car wreck during his junior year at Fairmont State College and in 2003 my wife decided to divorce me. When I got into an apartment of my own I turned to the songs of Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffet and others. After a few months I began writing my own songs and "Uranus" is the result. www.reverbnation.com/vicfitzsimmons Other sites: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=101838296 http://cdbaby.com/cd/vicfitzsimmons Contact Info: fitzuranus@yahoo.com Phone: (304) 758-2305

Story behind the song
Made up humor. I did not even meet the ex in college but this song gave me a chance to make another joke about losing big time in a divorce. The evaluating jerk at NSAI criticized "It sounds like something right out of the sixties! I've never heard of a song with two bridges!" Then he thanked me for using their services. They remain anonymous. I would not be surprised if that service is to just give a bunch of songwriting thieves a chance to steal ideas.
Lyrics
When I Went Off To College Vic Fitzsimmons © 3/19/2005 I wanted to become a veterinarian when I went off to college Because I like eating vegetables and fruit The fruit I found was not nutritious but really was delicious I really learned to love that institute I found a peach with a nice pear (pair) That I did not want to share The cigarettes that they smoked there had a funny kind of smell And you know they really packed a boot It wasn’t very long I grew to love Cheech and Chong I really learned to love that institute Chorus That institute of knowledge made me a different person Trying to become Sir Isaac Newton I found me a lady who taught me some nurse'n And I wound up in an institution The institution of marriage straightened me out I invested and made a lot of loot But I was struck by a force the lawyers call divorce I never really loved that institute. Chorus If I had not loved the mini skirt I’d have never lost my shirt I never really loved that institute Chorus
