Story behind the song
BEN: We decided early on that we didn't want "Radio" to be anything like "Ghosts". We wanted it to be a badass rock record, where "Ghosts' had been fairly subdued for the most part. At the time, if I recall, we could not get anything done at all. Every riff we came up with sounded like some really terrible modern rock stuff. We were listening to the Green Day record "Warning" and were all impressed by its simplicity. So, in a fit of frustration, I just started the intro and verse because it was simple and easy. And somehow it worked. Russ and Taylor started playing along and within a few minutes we had the song. This has to be one of the easier songs that we have ever written. I had to write a guitar solo, which I hate doing, so I recorded two separate guitar solos. They were both garbage, but they sounded kind of interesting together, so I just kept both. I mixed this one and have to say that I think I messed it up a little. The bass part gives the song a little more oomph but I mixed it to low. That's my fault. Lyrically, it's about a crazy girl. The way Russ says it is better than I can. RUSS: Everything Ben says is true. Also, this song is fun and should provoke movement. I was kindly asked to write the chorus for this b*** , and it is about girls that suck....or, rather, don't.
