Story behind the song
This is one of my more personal tracks... I delved into my own life a little bit here to try and explain a few situations I've been in.
Lyrics
Intro
Who Am I??? I'm undecisive/
Who Am I??? I don't know what my life is/
Who Am I??? I really Dont like this/
Who Am I??? I'm in an identity crisis/
Ever since my birth, the day I entered earth/
Always held my own, tried to protect my own turf/
Be a leader not a follower, not a sheep but a shepard/
But I keep denyin myself, changin like the spots of leopards/
See I'm well known in the streets, did when in school/
Could flow well to a beat, so older cats though I was cool/
So I tried bein academic and social at the same time/
Hangin with both clever kids and grimey kids at playtime/
As I got older I got a bit of a balance/
Tryin to keep everyone happy, it was on one of my talents/
Wasnt even a teen but had a cool personality/
And most people liked me because of my originality/
Not knowin this would have a negative side/
Or that one day I would ultimately have to decide/
Which of these two people I really wanted to be/
I which one of those I would have to set free/
Chorus
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... man, Im stuck in an identity crisis/
As I got older things got a lot harder/
I wanted to be like both my mother and my father/
But they're two completely different people in every way/
So bein raised by them made me confused everyday/
My dad is from New York, can tell by his talk/
While my mother's British born and bred, who would've thought/
A combination from two different nations, with no relation/
Would result in me a slightly confused creation/
My brother went to jail, my sister went to university/
My brain got kind of messed up by the diversity/
Still tryin to be two people at once/
My heart knew it wasnt right and made a response/
The kids on the streets, they tried to entice me/
And make me do things that really aint like me/
But I realised the best role model for me is me/
Not anybody on the streets or the people on TV/
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... man, Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Eventually I made a choice, to gain knowledge/
And when I left school I decided to go to college/
I'm glad I did that cause when I see my old friends/
They're struggling barely able to make their own ends/
While I'm studyin and alse beginnin to get work/
When I walk past them now all I ever do is smirk/
Cause it could've been me, I couldve been one of them/
With no future ahead of me, that's evident/
Instead I've got a chance to explore the world/
And make somethin of myself, me and my girl/
Make my family proud, stand out in a crowd/
cause even without words my presence is loud/
Not just me, anybody who want to be different/
Can make that change and become significant/
You only live once, be what you're meant-to-be/
And make sure you have your own identity/
Chorus
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... Im stuck in an identity crisis/
Identity Crisis... man, Im stuck in an identity crisis
