Story behind the song
Written in 1995, the lyrics come from a poem I wrote around the same time. The lyrics are pure dada and open to interpretation, if they mean anything at all.
Lyrics
Couldn't quit now if I dared Couldn't care less if I tried Wouldn't say more if I cared Wouldn't think less if I died Put an idea to my head Found out what it's like to see Saved your final piece of bread Wallowed in conformity I met a girl named Dave She said she craved the grave A poet killed a word With something that I heard She don't care if she laughs or cries She don't care if she lives or dies She craves the grave Her soul you cannot save She craves the grave Her soul you cannot save Said the same thing twenty times Lost the rights but won the race Spent my fortune selling dimes Sold my soul and bought a face Broke a poem with my pen Found what I was looking for Take it up and start again If you read this shut the door I met a girl named Dave She said she craved the grave A poet killed a word With something that I heard She don't care if she laughs or cries She don't care if she lives or dies She craves the grave Her soul you cannot save She craves the grave Her soul you cannot save
