Story behind the song
Kind of a response to the common question, "how could a loving all powerful God exist with so much suffering in the world?" Turns the point around to, what are you going to do about the suffering you see and experience?
Lyrics
When The Lord Comes Calling, will He Find A Heart That’s Open? When The Lord Comes Calling, will He Find A Heart That’s Open? Will you recognize His call, and give Him what He wants, A Heart That’s Open? Do You hear Him in the good times, when it seems you have it all? Perhaps the noise of pleasure then, is drowning out His call. When you see your neighbor suffer, will you watch in disbelief? Or will you hear Him calling you to become His hands and feet? When The Lord Comes Calling, will He Find A Heart That’s Open? Will you recognize His call, and give Him what He wants, A Heart That’s Open? --- Bridge -- When those hard times come a calling, will His call still be in vain? Or will you let Him reach you then, as He loves you through the pain? And at the time your life is ending, will it finally come to mind, Will you look back and know, that He was calling all the time? When The Lord Comes Calling, will He Find A Heart That’s Open? Will you recognize His call, and give Him what He wants, A Heart That’s Open? The Lord Loves a heart that’s open. He can use a heart that’s open. You can “see” through a heart that’s open.
