Deep, reflective, and thoughtful music. Searching for the deepest core of musical expression.
My name is Kenneth Edward Keyn. I am simply a musician. I strive to understand the deeper things that music has to offer. I am a composer of deep, rich, and expressive music. I am classically trained, but I explore a plethora of genres and styles. I specialize in orchestral, choral, and small ensemble work. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition from Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon. I am the primary co-composer on the iPhone game Trenches. Story behind the song
This piece is written in honor and memory of my friend Erik Iverson. I considered Erik to be my best friend during high school. Sadly, following graduation, we had lost touch, though we still talked every now and then, until maybe a year before he died. It was around that time that he informed me that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer. He was forced to change a lot of things in his life and began living a lot healthier than he had before Toward the end, it seemed as though he was doing well to fight it and maybe even beat it. However, in the last week of December 2005, he fell out of remission and was admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital in Beaverton, Oregon. I, having felt I hadn't talked to him in a while, called his house, only to receive the news from his mother. A few hours later, I was at the hospital with my brother, sister-in-law, and a mutual friend of Erik's to visit him. I was pained to see a shell of the man that I had once known as strong and full of life. Even then, he still retained his spirit and his humor. Days later - January 11, 2006 - he died surrounded by his family and fianceé. His memorial was held on January 20, 2006 at First Methodist Church in Portland, Oregon. This piece made its debut on December 8, 2006; performed by the Warner Pacific College Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Thomas A. Miller.
Lyrics
Liebes, verlorener Freund, deine Anwesenheit glaubte beim Ermangeln; Auf Wiedersehen, Auf Wiedersehen. Am Frieden sein. Im Ruhezustand sein. Liebes, Liebes, Liebes, Liebes, Liebes, Liebes. Auf Wiedersehen. Auf Wiedersehen.
